A step on the road to a stress free life?

This installment of guff stems from a program I watched last week on Britains’ canal system and how vital it used to be for transport of heavy good and what not. This gave me a fantastic idea.

I don’t think a day has gone by in the best part of 8 years I have been driving where I haven’t been stuck behind some lorry chugging along at 12mph or stuck on a blocked motorway caused by some goon in a lorry thinking he’s Lewis Hamilton and trying to slipstream the lorry in front. Both these things cause unnecessary stress and road rage and lead to raised blood pressure – which isn’t good.

Now. Men and women in cardigans and brown trousers are always moaning the canals are going to rack and ruin. Why not banish all lorries from the road and transport cargo by barge again? All the drivers who will lose their jobs can re-train as boat drivers or canal builders or whatever and everyone will be happy. Traffic congestion would be halved – I’m damn sure of it, you would be able to have a hassle free drive up the A41 from Telford to Chester, and all the tree hugging eco warriors will be happy as thousand and thousands of gas guzzling lorries will be banished from our roads for ever.

It might even be a step on the ladder to world peace. I reckon it’s a stonking idea
